Liam’s First Birthday

March 14, 2010

I know I am blogging about this months late (I didn’t have a blog then … does that count?) but want to have this down in blog history too.

Liam turned One December 7th 2009 – wow a year! It was a hard year at times and a miraculously happy one too. I think back to those early days in the NICU and how tiny and helpless Liam was – and how scared I was – at a year old he is a happy healthy big guy who we have nicknamed “Captain” … Captain Happy, Captain Stinky, Captain Smarty Pants … In every way he has changed from those days in the NICU

Liam is a boy thru and thru … he loves trucks, trains and blocks. He doesn’t stay still for a second, unless to eat. He is not a man of many words just yet, but a look of his eye says so much. I cannot wait till he is sharing all of his thoughts with us verbally.

Liam celebrated his first birthday with both his Gramma and Mom Mom in town (my Mom and Tom’s) and I think that was the best present he got. We had a small party at the YMCA and when cake time approached everyone had camera’s in hand to catch his first reaction to the taste of cake – and to our surprise it was tears! Who would have thought a child of MINE would hate cake?

I thought it could have been the excitement and attention that scared him to tears and not the distaste of the cake, so later in the evening we let him try the cake again … and again he cried. really? really!
